I am a traveling nurse, so I go to several different addresses every day. I tend to get lost a lot, and often encounter construction and closed routes. I am looking for a car GPS navigation system, but I have no idea where to even start. The only feature I know for sure that I want to have is some sort of lane guidance. I’m not too concerned about the price, I just want something dependable that will get me un-lost.

How does one turn one’s laptop into a car GPS device and can one obtain wolrdwide maps and driving directions of various countries?

I’m deciding whether to buy a GPS or get one in a new car installed.
How long can you keep the portable GPS, maybe for a long time, about 10-20 years. That’s how long, I hope I can keep one if I buy one.

My car will only let gps be operated when vehicle is at complete stop. I could understand for safety but the passenger could operate it.
