5 Stars Magellan RoadMate 1212
I purchased Magellan RoadMate 1212 for a late Christmas gift for my husband. It works well for him. He is happy with this item as it makes his day at work really productive. It calculates alternative route when the traffic slows down. Pronunciation of some streets are not that accurate, but overall function is satisfactory and well worth than the price I paid for.
5 Stars Great GPS
The magellan works great. It is easy to use. The best feature is that it finds the directions quickly, very little waiting around. I have a Garmin and Magellan, this Magellan is faster in finding the route. However, I like how the Garmin attaches to the windshield better. Otherwise, it works well and basically no differenant than other GPS systems.
4 Stars Got me going in circles
We bought this in anticipation of our road trip from Virginia to Key West and return in January 2009. Finally broke down and bought one because the price seemed right. We used it to get around Richmond and it is easy, intuitive and spot on.
Navigation is very good, and all works as advertised with the exception of the elevation (it’s not 143 feet above sea level anywhere in Florida, particularly on the causeways). Exit POIs work very well.
In Key West it had us take 4 successive right turns, was recommending a fifth so we had to hit reroute to snap it from that behavior. One time the voice sounded like a 78 played at 33 and 1/3 (sorry for the arcane reference), but the best description and we powered off and on and it hasn’t happened since.
When routed to our home on a rural Virginia road, if we pass the dead end street on which we live, rather than tell us to “make a legal u-turn” it tries to send us almost 11 miles in a circle back to the street turn we missed. Strange.
For the price we can live with it’s idiosyncrasies.
5 Stars Best driving tool Ever
This is he best ever. Easy to follow directions, ample warning before turns. My only complaint is when going off track by taking an exit on the highway just to get gas, it directs you via local streets to the next exit instead of back to the exit you used previously.
4 Stars Happy traveler
This is my first GPS and so I have nothing to compare this item with but I do like it very much and think for the price it’s a good investment. It definitely gets me where I’m going and back. It’s not sophisticated but it works. Mounting it in my older 1992 Camry was tricky but Best Buy had a mount that clips to the vent (above the radio) and it worked like a charm.
